    New microcontroller designed In-house

Our new microcontrollers have arrived and we’ve successfully completed the first test with them.

These tiny controllers were designed completely in-house and we’ll be embedding them initially into a new range of illuminated signage we’re creating which will feature colour and lighting animation control. Its built-in pushbutton also for a variety of user-selectable programs, too, greatly increasing the flexibility.

That’s not the only application these little circuits will find though as we can program them to do much more than LED control – we’ll also be looking at some applications for solar-powered signage this year, too, where these devices could easily be employed for charge control applications, too.

    Introducing our Contactless Business Tags

    Contactless Business Tags

We’re excited to announce the launch of our Contactless NFC Business Tags which are perfect for busy networkers, events and exhibitions.

    Out tags are Environmentally friendly

    Environmentally friendly

Made from recyclable and sustainable birch ply, these tags not only enhance your contact sharing but also prioritise environmental sustainability.

In today’s fast-paced and technology-driven world, business cards remain an important tool for professionals to establish connections. However, the traditional paper-based cards contribute to deforestation and waste. Recognising this issue, we developed a contactless tag that combines cutting-edge technology and eco-conscious materials.

The Contactless NFC Business Tags are crafted from sustainably sourced recyclable premium Finnish birch ply. By utilizing this renewable resource, we help contribute to forest preservation and reduce reliance on non-renewables. The tags are beautifully engraved to elevate your brand while celebrating the natural finish of the material.

    NFC, a modern technology

    Modern Technology

What sets these tags apart is the integration of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. With a simple tap, recipients can instantly access the sender’s digital profile, including contact information, social media profiles and more. This seamless interaction streamlines networking, making it more efficient and safer in today’s health-conscious world.

The sustainable wood used in these business tags not only adds an element of sophistication and natural beauty but also ensures durability and longevity. Each tag is custom-made to reflect the holder’s brand identity, providing a memorable and impactful first impression that resonates with environmentally conscious partners and clients. The tags are user-programmable and can also be write-protected.

Cost effective when compared to traditional business cards

    Cost effective

And it gets better! While traditional cards typically cost 25 pence to give away and often end up at the bottom of a drawer or, worse, in a bin, our Contactless Business Tags typically start to save you money by comparison after 80 taps, £20 in ‘traditional card money’.

    Available now

Our Contactless NFC Business Tags are available now in our online shop, and customisation options allow businesses to tailor them to their brand identity. By choosing these sustainable alternatives, professionals can showcase their commitment to both networking excellence and environmental stewardship.

You can easily order a tag for your brand using our standard business card size template by clicking here or if you’d prefer a more customised tag then get in touch and we can discuss your needs.

  • New Laser Day

    New Laser Day

At the beginning of April we were excited to have our new laser system installed. This is a 100W CO2 laser which is a big upgrade from the previous small system we were using. Suppliers Mantech delivered, installed and tested it for us and also provided training on it.

The new Mantech 4060 Lasertech Pro system with chiller and air filter

This machine greatly expands our capabilities by increasing production speed and providing a larger work area of 600x400mm. Additionally it also allow us to easily process glass and clear acrylic materials which have previously been problematic due to the wavelength of the laser.

Round objects have now been added to the processing list, too, as this machine comes with a rotary device for working on items like bottles and other cylindrical shapes. We’ll be getting into that area soon! The higher powered laser lets us work on thicker materials as well as working faster.

We’ve already started producing illuminated acrylic signs and they’re looking great. Even when not illuminated, acrylic looks great for awards, etc.

Looking forwards we’ll be focussing on building our B2B portfolio, producing more and varied creations to help businesses stand out and improve their own offerings using wood, MDF, acrylic, slate, glass and more!

If you have branded items or even component parts of your offering you’d like laser cut then get in touch and let’s talk about what we can do for you.

Local charity selects Surefyre Laser Design for medal production

We are excited to announce that Surefyre Laser Design has been selected by local charity Pass The Smile For Ben to produce their medals for an upcoming event at the end of March.

We have been asked to make 100 double-sided wooden medals which will be created from FSC-sourced recyclable ply for the event. We took a sketch concept from Pass The Smile and used that as the basis to design the medal in close consultation with the charity, it is now about to go into production for them.

Pass The Smile raises funds for research into childhood cancer in memory of Ben Crowther from Earlsdon, Coventry. Ben (aka Bennis the Menace) was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Rhabdomyosarcoma, in June 2018. Despite the brutal effects of his own chemotherapy treatment Ben tried different ways to cheer up other patients, including telling jokes and pulling pranks on friends, family and the hospital staff. Ben (age 7) gained his superhero wings just a year after diagnosis. Pass The Smile is his legacy.

Ben would have been 11 years old on 27th March 2023. The medals are for a virtual event celebrating Ben, his 7 Earth years and his heavenly age of 11. People are encouraged to join in challenges of their choice incorporating the numbers 7 or 11 – or both! You could read 7 books, run 7km, tell 11 jokes or play 11 pranks. Maybe not all at the same time though! Information about taking part will be released on Pass The Smile social media. (https://www.facebook.com/PassTheSmileOrg/)

Pass the Smile for Ben is a named fund at the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group, the experts in Childhood Cancer. Registered Charity Number: 1182637
